From Tiffins to Tandoor: The Rajdhani Story in Bishop’s Stortford

June 13, 2025

Every restaurant has a recipe. Ours began in Satara, Maharashtra,India where spices were more than just ingredients, they were memories, stories, and traditions passed down through generations. The founder of Rajdhani, a true daughter of Satara, arrived in the UK with little more than a suitcase, a heart full of ambition, and a deep love for the food she grew up with.

Her journey started modestly, delivering homemade tiffins across London to fellow Indians craving a taste of home. These weren’t just meals; they were comforting reminders of festivals, family kitchens, and street food stalls buzzing with life. Word spread. What started as tiffins from a small kitchen became a catering service parked near business hubs, university zones, and cultural fairs. The demand grew. People, Indian and British alike; couldn’t get enough of the bold chaats, smoky tikkas, and creamy curries.

And now, that journey brings us to Bishop’s Stortford, where Rajdhani is preparing to open its doors. More than just another Indian restaurant, Rajdhani is a celebration of India’s vibrant culinary soul. From Pani Puri to Butter Chicken, Kolhapuri Lamb to Tiranga Tikka, every dish is a tribute to India’s regions, flavours, and warmth.

Set in the heart of town at 5 & 7 Market Square, Rajdhani blends traditional Indian artistry; think peacock motifs, earthy textures, and spice-inspired decor, with the comfort and casual charm of a British local. It’s a space made to welcome everyone: families, students, first-time curry explorers, and long-time lovers of Indian food.

We’re not just serving meals. We’re sharing a story one filled with spice, struggle, roots, and pride. From tiffins to tandoors, Rajdhani is proof that when food is made with love, it speaks every language.
